Independent Climate Action Report Appendices

The Isle of Man Government has recently published two reports that will be considered in Tynwald on 21 January 2020.

The first is an independent report by Professor James Curran. Professor Curran was appointed by the Council of Ministers to provide an independent report on ambitious options for the Isle of Man to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The second is an Isle of Man Government Action Plan for Achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050 – Phase 1, which was informed by Professor Curran’s report and sets out the first steps to deliver net zero by 2050.

Professor Curran’s approach to writing the report was to request that a team of government officers be established to research options and provide a strong Isle of Man focus to the work.

This team was made up of representatives of most Government Departments and also Manx Utilities. Some staff had a strong technical background in climate change-related topics, some had a strong research background, others had neither but brought Isle of Man-specific expertise to the project.

The work of the team was presented in a series of Appendices to Professor Curran’s report which are published below to assist in the work to deliver the climate action plan.

Given the timescale of the work, the appendices must be read in the context of being the output of short-term research projects to inform the wider work and the provision of local background information for Professor Curran. Whilst technical review may have been sought for some of the appendices, many have not been externally reviewed.

These appendices have not been produced for publication. In making them available to the public, we hope to help inform future climate action work. Whilst not being intended for publication, the appendices do provide an excellent starting point for future research and action.

They also provide a basis on which to build knowledge and we welcome any additional information. If you do have feedback or further information, please contact
