2021 Isle of Man Census

complete the census online

Do not worry if you have not yet received a requested paper form as you still have plenty of time to complete and submit a census response.

Please submit your return as soon as possible, however Census field officers will start visiting households after 21 June to offer any assistance that's needed to complete an outstanding census response.

The 2021 Isle of Man Census is due to be held on 30 May 2021 and all households will shortly be receiving a letter from Economic Affairs. If you have not received your letter by 26 May 2021, you should get in touch with the Census Office.

This letter will provide you with your unique access code to complete the census form online. Alternative methods of completion are available by contacting the Census Office on;

Telephone: +44 1624 685700

You can also visit the Census Office, 8am to 4:30pm at Nivison House (formerly the Job Centre), Prospect Hill, Douglas. On the letter each household received you may find the address listed as Fairfield School. Due to unforeseen connectivity issues with the Fairfield School building, it was not possible to use this as the Census Office and it was therefore changed to Nivison House.

Previous Census Information

The Isle of Man has held a full census every 10 years since 1821 with interim censuses being introduced from 1966.

The census is a national survey of people and households in the Isle of Man and is needed to provide key information which is not available from any other source. For example, Government will use the information for planning purposes, to assess whether there are enough schools, hospital and maternity facilities etc.

Businesses use the census results when they are considering whether or not to establish a presence in the Island and, if so, where to site new factories, offices and shops. Local authorities also need to know how many pople live in their area in order to optimise the services they provide.

Electronic copies of Isle of Man Census Reports are available for 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016.

Unpublished data may be supplied on request.

Paper copies, including those for years prior to 1996, are available from the Tynwald Library, Legislative Buildings, Finch Road, Douglas, IM1 3PW.
