Monday, 12 February 2018

Government House today announced that Her Majesty The Queen has approved a request from His Honour the First Deemster and Clerk of the Rolls, David Doyle, to stand down from Office on 31 July 2018.

David Doyle was appointed as First Deemster in December 2010 having spent the previous twelve months as Acting First Deemster. Prior to this he held Office as Second Deemster from March 2003.

On behalf of the Crown and of his three predecessors and himself, the Lieutenant Governor expresses enormous gratitude to His Honour Deemster Doyle for 15 years of exemplary service first as Second Deemster and then as First Deemster.

Deemster Doyle has advised that in due course he will return to private practice but it is not his intention to appear as an advocate in court.

The process to fill the ensuing vacancy of First Deemster will begin shortly.
