Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood praised the important contribution made by the Isle of Man Prison Service when he presented members of staff with Long Service and Good Conduct Medals.
Mr Wood said the prison and its personnel helped to maintain community safety in the Island and to resettle offenders into society on completion of their sentences.
A total of 16 operational prison staff received medals during a special ceremony at Jurby to recognise their exemplary service over many years.
The prison staff who were honoured had all completed a minimum of 20 years of continuous operational service and had displayed excellent character and conduct throughout their careers.
The medals, which are inscribed with the individual’s name and rank, are awarded on the recommendation of the prison governor after careful consideration.

Prison Governor Alison Gomme said:
‘Every one of these officers is a very deserving recipient of this honour. A lot of time and effort was spent considering every member of staff who had completed the qualifying period. Only those who had an exemplary record of service were recommended for a long service and good conduct medal.’
Family members were invited to the ceremony in recognition of the essential support they provide to operational prison staff.
