Processing Times and Service Options

The Passport Office does not accept responsibility for any customer who is unable to travel due to them not receiving their passport in time.  Customers should not book travel without having a valid passport.

Any applications that are received without the correct documentation or payment type will be returned to the applicant.

Standard Service:

Standard Service is up to a 20 working day service. This is from the day after your correctly completed application is received at our office.

Upgrading to the Express Service can be done at any time even if you have applied for the Standard Service. It can take up to 5 working days from processing to delivery, so please ensure that you allow plenty of time prior to travelling.

Your new passport will be posted to you from the UK by recorded delivery.

Once we have processed your application, your old passport will be cancelled and posted to you separately along with any other supporting documentation. This will indicate that your new passport is on its way to you.

Express Service:

This provides a 5 working day service.  This is from the day after your correctly completed application is received at our office.

We strongly recommend that an Express application is made in person at our counter to minimise the delay in processing your application.  If you choose to submit a postal application please ensure that you enclose the correct supporting documentation and the correct fee and the payment method is made. The Passport Office does not accept responsibility for delays, loss of mishandling of applications placed in the post.

Your new passport will be posted to you from the UK by recorded delivery.

Once we have processed your application, your old passport will be cancelled and posted to you separately along with any other supporting documentation. This will indicate that your new passport is on its way to you.

You may not qualify for an Express Service if:

  • You are an adult applying for a first time passport
  • There is a mistake of missing information on your form
  • The Isle of Man Passport Office needs more time to consider a complex application.
  • If you have declared multiple passports as lost/stolen.
  • Circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Isle of Man Passport Office.

DISCLAIMER: Express services are not guaranteed. The Isle of Man Passport Office reserves the right to extend the time period or reject the application if appropriate. 

In the event of system failure the Isle of Man Passport and Immigration Office will process your application, under the agreed service, as soon as possible.

Emergency Travel Document:

An Emergency Travel Document can only be issued in exceptional circumstances.

Applications can only be accepted at the public counter and with the correct payment method. The appropriate documentation must be provided at the time of application (including proof of international travel).
