Processing times

When renewing your passport using the Standard or Express Service, the time left on your existing passport is added to your new one, up to a maximum of 9 months.

Customers should not book travel without having a valid passport.

The Passport Office does not accept responsibility for any customer who is unable to travel due to them not receiving their passport in time.

Standard Service

Standard Service is 20 working days from the day after your correctly completed application is received at our office.

Customers should take this time into account when planning any travel and if they have any doubt as to whether they will receive their passport in time, they need to consider whether upgrading to the 5 day Express Service is more appropriate for their specific needs.

Upgrading can be done at any time even if you have applied for the Standard Service.

Your new passport will be posted to you from the UK by recorded delivery.

Once we have processed your application, your old passport will be cancelled and posted to you separately along with any other supporting documentation. This will indicate that your new passport is on its way to you.

Express Service:

This provides a guaranteed 5 working day service which starts from the following working day after submission.

This service is only guaranteed for Isle of Man postal addresses. We are unable to guarantee delivery times to within 5 working days to destinations outside of the Isle of Man.

We strongly recommend that an express service application is made in person at our counter to minimise the delay in processing your application.

Emergency Passport Service:

An emergency passport can only be issued in exceptional circumstances.

Applications can only be accepted at the public counter if made by credit or debit card, postal order or cash.

Customers are encouraged to check their passport applications are complete and accurate, and to provide all the necessary supporting documentation. Failure to do so could result in further delays as your application will be returned to you. It will not then receive priority attention when it is resubmitted.

General Guidance

Any applications that are made using the wrong payment method will be returned to the applicant without being processed. The Passport Office will apply the Express Service from the time the application is input onto our system, NOT when the application was posted.

Government Offices - Passport Post Box: We do have a Passports post box by the main entrance to Government Offices and you can submit your application in an envelope with all the required documentation and payment in cheque (N/A for Express Service) cash or postal order.
