Work progressing on accessible bus routes

Friday, 16 January 2026

Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood MHK has announced that work to provide more accessible stops on more bus routes is progressing well.

The improvements mean that people who use mobility scooters and wheelchairs will find it easier to travel around the island.

All  bus vannin routes now have a number of stops which are more accessible.

A list of those stops will be available on the bus vannin website from Monday, January 19. They will come into use from Monday, February 2.

Updates will be posted on bus vannin’s social media as improvements are made.

Dr Haywood said:

‘We’re pleased to see more accessible bus stops coming online across the network, making it easier and safer for everyone to travel independently.

‘This is just the start. More improvements are on the way as we continue upgrading infrastructure across the Island. I want to thank all mobility scooter and wheelchair users for their patience while these works have been underway.’

A trial to allow mobility scooters on to buses on the Douglas Service 21 route serving Anagh Coar and Farmhill last year helped to fine-tune procedures ahead of the wider adaptation of bus stops.

People who want to use mobility scooters on buses can have them assessed to check compatibility before they try to use the service. Users can book assessments at the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal from Monday.

Bus Vannin staff will be on hand on Tuesday, January 27, at the Bottleneck car park from 10am to 12 noon to answer questions and demonstrate how buses can be accessed. For more information about the carriage of wheelchairs and mobility scooters, see the Bus Vannin website.
