The online public consultation into the introduction of 20mph limits on certain Manx roads in the north is now live.
The Department of Infrastructure is canvassing opinion on the issue after Tynwald supported a policy to introduce 20mph in residential areas.
The consultations are being undertaken in a rolling programme across the Island.
The public can see maps, information and submit their comments online.
Wherever possible, maps will also be available to view at the offices of the relevant local authorities in the line with the regional consultation dates.
The proposed 20mph speed limit aims to:
- Support healthier lifestyles by making walking and cycling safer and more appealing
- Foster more inclusive and people-friendly streets, where shared space benefits all road users
- Improve road safety, reducing the risk and severity of collisions for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists
- Encourage considerate driving by creating an environment where slower speeds are the norm
- Reduce noise and air pollution, contributing to a cleaner, quieter environment
Infrastructure Minister Dr Michelle Haywood MHK said:
‘The Department is determined to find the right solutions for every community. Gathering local knowledge and experience is a vital part of this process and will continue to be a key feature of further consultations taking place later in the year as this project rolls out across the Island.
‘I would urge anyone interested in the proposals to look at the maps on the website to see what is planned.
‘The Department welcomes all responses from the public. Please remember, nothing is set in stone. We are keen to hear from as many people as possible to achieve the best possible outcomes.
‘The feedback will play an important part in decision-making.’
The consultation for the central area of the Island will run from 1 September to 27 October.
The consultation for the south will run from 3 November to 22 December.
