The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has introduced an offer for students which will allow them greater choice when travelling to and from the Island.
The student offer was announced as bookings for travel in 2014 opened, alongside more than 900,000 special offer seats available during the year.
Students in full-time further and higher education off-Island can book foot passenger fares at the lowest prices and benefit from the flexibility of not paying amendment fees if their travel plans change. As an additional benefit, they will not be charged weekend supplements.
The offer applies whether booking by telephone or online, where full terms and conditions are available.
All students have to do is quote the fare code PSTU when they book and ensure they have proof of their student status, such as a current student photo ID card, when they check in.
Chief Executive Mark Woodward said:
'In putting together our special offers for the next year we have listened carefully to customer feedback and we will be offering a wide range of savings to meet their needs.
'It was very clear from what our customers said that students, many of whom are on very tight budgets, would benefit from greater flexibility on our foot passenger fares, so we have responded with this offer.
'Every year, many students travel on and off the Island by ferry, and we are confident this offer will make it easier, and cheaper, for them to get to and from their studies, and visit home more often.'
Tim Crookall MHK, Minister for Education and Children, welcomed the student deal.
He said:
'Our students have that stretch of water to factor in when leaving home to head to university and it’s not always as viable for them as it is for UK students to come back home for a visit or at the end of term. This announcement by the Steam Packet Company will come as very welcome news for students and their families.'
