Road users in the Isle of Man can now view information on closures, diversions, roadworks, temporary speed limits and forthcoming events by accessing an improved online map facility.
Roadwatch has been modernised through the adoption of the tried and tested one.network traffic management software, which is widely used by many local authorities in the UK and internationally.
Moving away from the traditional online list of information accessed by thousands of people each year, the improvements enable users to see the exact location of places which are and will be subject to changes.
Maps can be altered to show different layers, such as road network, terrain or satellite imagery, and filters can be used to display certain types of information, as well as specific time periods.
The free, user-friendly service presents information in a clear way which is easy to understand, and is available on all digital devices at gov.im/roadwatch
It is also more accessible and collaborative for those wishing to upload information across different areas of the Isle of Man Government and emergency services, and will be a useful tool for those planning events.
Anyone wishing to be notified of changes in a specific area can do so by signing up to one.network’s email alert system.
Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker MHK said:
‘Keeping people updated on what’s going on around the Isle of Man’s 683-mile highway network is of crucial importance to how we live our lives every day of the year.
‘The new map-based version of Roadwatch will enable more information to be uploaded by more areas of the Isle of Man Government, assisting planning needs and leading to greater collaboration.
He added:
‘This is the latest development in delivering digital solutions for the benefit of taxpayers. It will be followed shortly by a relaunch of Report a Problem - an important tool in helping the Department prioritise where work takes place through information supplied by the public.’
