Real time bus tracking and journey planner

Isle of Man Public Transport’s customers now have access to real time tracking of buses, trams and trains thanks to a new free app that has been built by a local developer in conjunction with the Cabinet Office and the Manx ICT Association.

The app, called 'Bus-Man' can be found in all the app stores or can be accessed from any device or computer at www.bus-man.com and includes a map showing the real time position of all services including buses, electric trams, steam trains and horse trams. It also includes a journey planner and interactive timetables.

Bus passenger journeys exceed 3 million a year

A total of 3,348,296 passengers used bus vannin services during 2015.

Implementing a new Ticketer system and introducing smart cards across all bus services has enabled accurate figures to be produced for the first time. The figures show around one million bus passenger journeys are notched up every four months.

  • January to April 2015: 1,054,954
  • May to August: 1,131,171
  • September to December: 1,162,171

Single and return tickets are available on the bus from the driver. Please try to give the correct fare as the driver may not always have change. 1-Day Savers can be bought on bus.

Hullad Oie/ Night Owl is our late night bus service, which operates on Fridays and Saturdays generally. Services depart Douglas at 00:15 and serve all the major towns on the Island. These services are all prefixed with the letter N, and begin after midnight with journeys charged at double the standard adult fare. Full details can be found in the relevant timetable pages.

Fleet Information

Our bus fleet consists of a mix of single and double deck large buses plus a number of Mercedes Benz Sprinter City 45 minibuses.

With the exception of the private hire Heritage Fleet, which includes AEC and Leyland double decker buses ranging from 1948 to 1967, all our modern buses meet the regulations set out in the Disability Discrimination Act and have engine exhaust emissions that meet the very latest EU Euro V or VI requirements.

Bus vannin is Isle of Man Government owned and operated. Our full Conditions of Carriage and Passenger Regulations can be viewed or downloaded from the downloadable documents.
