Sanctions - Afghanistan, Belarus, Sudan and South Sudan

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

On 19 June 2012 the European Union (Afghanistan Sanctions) Order 2012 came into operation. This Order revoked and replaced three earlier orders dating from 2011 and applied Council Regulation (EU) 753/2011 in the Island. Amongst the modifications made to that Regulation is that Article 11 is amended to allow that changes made to the lists of those affected by EU sanctions should have immediate effect in the Island without the need for any further application order.

An updated version of Sanctions Notice 39 (Afghanistan) is available on the Customs and Excise website.

Lists of those affected by the sanctions may be found on the HM Treasury website.

Belarus Sanctions

This is to advise persons and businesses in the Island that on the 19 June 2012 the European Union (Belarus Sanctions) Order 2012 came into operation. This Order revoked and replaced a number of earlier orders and had the effect of applying in Island law various EU instruments up to and including Council Regulation (EU) No. 354/2012.

The Order also provided that henceforth changes made to the lists of persons and entities affected by assets freezes etc under EU sanctions measures shall have immediate effect in the Island without the need for any further application order. Hence, the lists found on the HM Treasury website also apply in the Island.

An updated version of Sanctions Notice 19 (Belarus) is available on the Customs and Excise website.

Sudan and South Sudan Sanctions

On 19 June 2012 the European Union (Sudan and South Sudan Sanctions) Order 2012 came into operation. The Order amended Council Regulation (EC) No. 131/2004, as applied in the Island, so that changes made to the lists of those affected by the sanctions should not need further application before having effect in the Isle of Man.

An updated version of Sanctions Notice 14 (Sudan) is available on the Customs and Excise website.

Lists of those affected by the sanctions may be found on the HM Treasury website.
