Reference Numbers
Find Your Tax Reference Number
Once you are registered for Income Tax in the Isle of Man you will be issued with a Tax Reference Number.
It consists of a letter followed by six numbers, a hyphen and then two further numbers e.g. H123456-78
The letter identifies what type of tax payer you are:-
H – Individual Tax Payer
C – Corporate Tax Payer
X – Trust and Partnership
Where can you find your Tax Reference Number
If you are registered for Online Services then you can view your Tax Reference Number.
Your Tax Reference Number can also be found on any payslips or T14’s that you have received from your employer.
It will also be on your tax returns and any other documents issued from the Income Tax Division, for example:
- Notice of coding
- Tax assessment
- Payment Reminders
If you are still unable to find your Tax Reference Number

Find your National Insurance Number
You will normally be sent a National Insurance Number just before your 16th birthday.
If you have moved to the Isle of Man and do not have a National Insurance Number then you can request one by completing CA5400 – Application for National Insurance. If moving from the United Kingdom, your existing National Insurance Number is still valid.
A National Insurance Number (NINO) consists of two letters, six numbers and a final letter e.g. MA123456C
Where can you find your National Insurance Number
If you are registered for Online Services then you can view your National Insurance Number on the personal details page.
Your National Insurance Number can also be found on any payslips or T14’s that you have received from your employer.
It will also be on all documentation received from National Insurance and maybe on some documentation from Social Security Division regarding any benefits.
