People encouraged to sign up for online tax services

Thursday, 6 September 2018

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK is encouraging more people to take advantage of the benefits provided by online tax services.

Filling in and posting paper copies of the Isle of Man annual income tax return is already a thing of the past for more than 25,000 taxpayers.

Income Tax return due by 6 October

As the countdown continues towards the 6 October deadline, those who have not yet made the switch are being encouraged to sign up for the convenient, secure and environmentally-friendly service.

In this video, Gerard Higgins, the Income Tax Division’s Senior Policy Officer and Business Solutions Group Manager, explains how Online Tax Services enable people to:

  • Submit and view their tax return online
  • Receive instant confirmation of their tax return submission
  • Review assessments and balance details easily and securely
  • Make secure online payments
  • Have income tax refunds paid directly into their bank account

Another helpful feature is that online tax forms are prepopulated with salary and state benefit details, saving people the trouble of looking up the information.

Anyone interested in registering should watch the video or visit the Government website for guidance about the enrolment process and details of how to request an activation code.

Minister Cannan said:

‘Online tax services provide a range of benefits for users, as well as generating welcome efficiencies for Government by reducing the need for paper documents, correspondence and telephone calls. This supports our aim of embracing technology to make it easier for people to conduct their business with Treasury.’

He added:

‘Around 45% of individual taxpayers are currently submitting their annual returns online and we are seeking to build on that to reach a position where the digital option is the norm.’

The Income Tax Division continues to provide a professional service for those who do not have internet access or prefer to send in paper copies of their return forms.
