EU Zimbabwe Sanctions

Wednesday, 26 February 2014

On 20 February 2014, the European Union adopted Council Regulation (EU) No 153/2014 which had the effect of removing virtually all individuals and entities from the lists of those affected by financial sanctions measures in respect of Zimbabwe.  However, the sanctions measures remain in place in respect of -

  • ROBERT MUGABE
  • GRACE MUGABE
  • ZIMBABWE DEFENCE INDUSTRIES

Consequently, the Treasury advises that there is now no prohibition on dealing with funds or economic resources of the persons that have been removed from EU lists, or making funds or economic resources available to them – but these prohibitions shall continue to have effect for Robert Mugabe, Grace Mugabe and Zimbabwe Defence Industries.

Other sanctions measures, such as an arms embargo and a prohibition on the supply of equipment that could be used for internal repression, remain in place.
