Is my building registered?
Below is an interactive list of current Registered Buildings, divided into districts. If you click on the property name you will be able to view details including the Registration certificate, report, site plan and photographs.
Registered buildings
Registered Buildings are those buildings and structures identified on the Island as having special architectural or historical interest.
Whilst there are over two hundred and fifty buildings currently entered on the Departments register, building registration is a continuous process.
Further buildings have been identified by the Departments Conservation Officer as potentially being worthy of research and possible inclusion on the register. Research and investigation is being progressed at the current time. Any correspondence regarding registered buildings should be sent to buildingconservation@gov.im
Carrying out works to a registered building
The prime objective of Registration is to protect a building from demolition and unsympathetic alteration. Registered Building consent is required to alter a Registered Building (internally or externally) in addition to any planning permission that may also be required.
It is a criminal offence to carry out work to a Registered Building without Registered Building Consent. Unauthorised works may result in prosecution and you may also be required to reinstate the building to its former condition.
It is also the responsibility of the owner of a Registered Building to ensure that it is maintained in a state of good repair.
See the section on Grants to find out more about the consent required when carrying out different types of work.
