Expressions of interest sought to lease Laxey Pavilion

Monday, 18 August 2014

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) is looking for a dynamic and innovative operator to take up the lease of the Pavilion building at Laxey Glen. Offers are sought from experienced hospitality service providers for the five year lease.

Andrew Sidebottom, Director of Forestry, Amenity and Lands at DEFA, said:

'The Department is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual or group, who is able to demonstrate that they can deliver and sustain high standards of service to visitors and the local community.

'There are two lease options. One option is the lease to occupy, maintain and manage the Pavilion building which includes restaurant, ballroom and 3-bedroomed apartment accommodation. The other lease option also includes managing and formally utilising the surrounding Laxey Glen, with its gardens and wooded areas, maintaining public access and amenities. The importance of the public access to the glen and garden areas is a key consideration in this lease option and the Department will give preference to offers that positively support this objective.

'We welcome expressions of interest for the lease as these premises and grounds are a key part of the economic diversity of Laxey, attracting visitors and locals alike.'

The Pavilion has previously been operated as a café, licenced restaurant and function venue. Laxey Glen is in the centre of the village and attracts many visitors, including children and families.

For an information pack, please contact the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture headquarters in St. John’s, by telephoning +44 1624 801263 or email: Nicky.Davison@gov.im. The closing date for expressions of interest will be 12.00 noon on Thursday 4 September.
