The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service is holding its 11th annual Memorial Walk on Sunday 23 April.
The event is a registered 50 kilometre open road race, following the Parish walk route from Peel to Ramsey, passing Kirk Michael, Ballaugh, Jurby, Andreas, through Sulby and finishing at Ramsey Fire Station.
Additionally this year a shorter distance is being introduced to encourage more walkers to take part.
Entry costs £25, with all proceeds being donated to The Firefighters Charity, which provides various types of assistance to serving and retired fire service staff and their families.
The event is known as the Fire Fighters Memorial Walk as it is organised by the Island’s Fire and Rescue Service in memory of staff and their families, and for those who have needed support from the charity over the years.
Registration is now open and available on the website www.firefightersmemorialwalk.com, along with further information about the route, race rules and much more.
The event is a registered walking road race and provides a great training option for those taking part in the Parish Walk.
Chief Fire Officer Kevin Groom said: ‘The event is a personal challenge anyone can enjoy, and a good way to help the charity. Every finisher receives a medal and this year walkers who are aged 17 on the day of the event can enter and finish at Bride roundabout (32km).’
