Primary Schools Sports Programme
With the aim of increasing sports participation in schools the Sports Development Unit have put together an island wide Primary Schools Sports Programme. This consists of 7 different sports that take place throughout the school year aimed at different age groups within Primary Schools.
For each of the 7 sports the initiative begins with a Training Course for Primary School teachers and parent helpers to provide them with some basic fundamental knowledge of the sport, the rules and fun drills & games that can be used for skill development. Following this training course each school is asked to set up an After School Club for a minimum of 6 - 8 weeks. The initiative then culminates with the schools coming together to play an Inter School Festival. For some of the sports included in the programme there will be regional Festivals followed by a National Final (where the top two teams come together to play one another). Furthermore for certain sports such as Rugby, the winners of the National Final will then travel off Island to compete in the UK.
If you have any questions regarding the Primary School Sports Festival please contat the Sports Development Office on +44 1624 688592 or contact your relevant Community Sports Development Officer.
