Essential Worker housing

About the Housing and Communities Board

The Housing and Communities Board was established to address a perceived housing crisis on the Isle of Man. They are working to put all housing policy, law and provision in one national housing strategy, with the aim of providing suitable and affordable homes for all.

An action plan for 2022-23 was published by the Board in March, and details the work they are doing.

Essential Worker housing

Some Essential Workers, such as nurses and teachers, are currently experiencing difficulty in finding appropriate accommodation when seeking to relocate to the Island after being offered a job.

The Board are looking to create a list of readily available rental accommodation for key workers and are asking all landlords to come forward and express their interest.

Any landlord who wishes to offer their properties is asked to register them using the new form. Information collated will be used to identify suitable accommodation for Essential Workers, who will then be encouraged to contact the landlord to discuss potential tenancy.

Eligible landlords who are interested should be registered, or be prepared to register on the Voluntary Landlords Register, have suitable insurance and be willing to enter into a formal tenancy agreement.
