The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service should be notified about all fireworks displays on the Isle of Man that are held outside specific times around bonfire night and new year's eve.

Fireworks

Organisers of private fireworks displays outside these dates must notify the Fire and Rescue Service and place a public notice in the local press to advise people when and where the display is to be held.

If you are planning a fireworks display you can download the notification and press forms from this page.

Organisations such as charities can apply to become exempt from making applications to hold a fireworks display outside the prescribed dates and from the requirement to advertise in a newspaper.  Any wanting to apply to go on the list of exempted organisations have to satisfy a number of criteria and their exemption has to be approved by Tynwald.

There are currently 6 charities on the exemption list.  Although they are exempted from advertising in the newspaper, they must still notify us of their intention to hold a display.

Local authorities are also exempt from notifying about fireworks displays, although the Fire and Rescue Service encourages those who are exempt to advise when they are holding displays in order to inform the coastguard and police.

Certain fireworks including party poppers, caps, cracker snaps and sparklers are exempt from the notification requirements. Full details can be found in the exemptions information sheet.

Please also see the bonfire and firework safety page for advice over the safe handling, storage and use of fireworks.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service administers the notification of fireworks displays on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs to comply with the Fireworks Act 2004.
