Civic amenity sites
There are four Civic Amenity Sites on the Island providing facilities for local residents to deposit items of general bulky household waste which will not fit into the household waste bin (e.g. washing machines, kitchen units). The Sites also provide a recycling service for a number of materials including lead acid batteries (e.g. car batteries); dry cell batteries (e.g. rechargeable or single use batteries); scrap metal; garden waste; glass; cans; plastic bottles; paper and clothing.
All Island Civic Amenity sites are not operated by the Department, we advise to contact the individual site if you have any queries regarding the opening hours and services provided.
Potentially hazardous household waste including fridges/freezers, televisions, computer monitors and fluorescent lamps are accepted for recycling. Charges for disposing of a fridge or freezer at the Island's Civic Amenity sites increased from 12 July 2021 as a result of recent changes in the UK that have led to a sharp rise in reprocessing costs.
From 1 January 2025 Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment charges have changed. Please refer to each site for prices
Please note: household waste wood cannot be accepted if it exceeds the criteria set out in Suez’ 'Waste Acceptance Citeria' SUEZ Isle of Man waste acceptance criteria - 22 11 - 4 which stipulates a maximum of 2m in length and/or 7cm in diameter/ width (page 5). The same criteria also applies for garden waste including branches, stumps etc. Householders are asked to reduce oversize wood before attending the site.
Disposal of Tyres
Civic Amenity sites are not able to accept any car or motorbike tyres for disposal. These tyres require bespoke storage and handling which the facilities are not able to provide. Please take all tyres to a professional tyre fitter where old tyres will be disposed of responsibly. Old bicycle tyres/inner tubes are accepted.
