Continence Advisory Service

The Continence Advisory Service provides professional advice, support and information to all individuals with continence problems, or their carers. Where continence cannot be retained or regained, advice on, and provision of suitable aids and appliances is included. All local residents have the right to access the service, either through regular clinic sessions held throughout the Island or via home visits.

The service operates Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, except bank holidays.

Nutrition and Dietetics

Most people who see a Dietitian will have been referred by their GP, consultant or hospital doctor, practice nurse, health visitor or other medical staff. Areas where dietary advice is often requested are Diabetes, Weight Management, Heart Disease, Poor appetite/weight loss associated with chronic illness, Eating Disorders, Gastrointestinal Disorders such as Coeliac Disease, Irritable Bowel Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease, Allergies and Intolerances and Kidney disease.

The Department operates Monday – Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm. The service is unavailable during weekends and bank holidays.

Hospital Volunteering 

Volunteers are involved in a wide variety of activities depending on their particular interests. Many volunteers work directly with patients/residents, assisting with serving meals and drinks and helping patients/residents to eat or drink. Talking and listening is important and volunteers are actively encouraged to do this. Other volunteers prefer to be 'Meeters and Greeters' and act as guides, showing visitors around hospital's. Others prefer to be more behind the scenes, helping staff with administration and clerical tasks.
