Planned homebirth

Women have the right to choose where their baby is born and it is important that they feel supported from the beginning of pregnancy.

The woman will be able to make an informed choice following a discussion with a community midwife. The woman will understand the consequences of her choices, ie the advantages, disadvantages and limitations whilst fulfilling the criteria for home delivery.

Ensure timely, accurate and appropriate information regarding homebirth is recorded and conveyed to colleagues and expectant parents, in order to maintain a high standard of client care and understanding.

The homebirth environment should not compromise the health and safety of the woman and her baby. Midwives in attendance at homebirths have access to a Supervisor of Midwives to provide advice and support as necessary.

The choice of place of birth can be discussed at any time during the pregnancy and the booking changed providing criteria is observed.
