Dementia is commonly associated with memory loss, however, there are more symptoms that typically emerge as a result of the syndrome such as impaired judgement, confusion, loss of language and lack of emotional control.
According to Alzheimer's Society:
- There are around 800,000 people in the UK with Dementia
- With an increase in life expectancy, this is estimated to rise to 1 million by the year 2021
- 1 in 3 people over 65 will develop dementia
- Two thirds of dementia sufferers are women

An Isle of Man charity, Manx Decaf is a monthly dementia cafe where sufferers of memory problems, carers, families and friends of people with dementia can meet to socialise and receive support.
