Sterile Services Department
The department undertakes the following:
- Sterilisation and decontamination of all medical and surgical equipment
- Reprocessing used equipment into sets of instrumentation ready for use in a sterile condition
- Preparing equipment through quality control processes to ensure equipment is safe to be used
- On call service for out of normal working hours to cover emergency work for theatres
- Issuing clinical supplies to wards and departments, using a materials management system
- Advising on purchasing of surgial equipment / clinical supplies / sterilisation and decontamination issues
- Auditing endoscopy units against compliance with regulations
- Training of nursing staff in identification of instrumentation.
