Bridge the Gap pod at Noble's Hospital
The Bridge the Gap Pod is available for teenagers and young adults experiencing frequent or extended inpatient stays at Noble’s Hospital.
The Bridge the Gap (BtG) charity was set up in 2014 to improve facilities and support for teenagers and young adults with ongoing health needs, as they navigate the transition from paediatric to adult health care, and into adulthood.
The BtG Pod, funded by BtG, is situated behind the Emergency Department (ED) at Noble’s Hospital, and can also be accessed via the courtyard opposite the Diabetes Centre. This is not a drop-in centre, but is opened as required for young inpatients who are well enough to spend some time off the ward, or young people transitioning from children’s services.
The Pod is:
- for the use of young adults with ongoing health needs (approx. 14 to 24 years)
- located behind ED, opposite the Diabetes Centre
- not a drop-in centre but can be opened on request by calling +44 7624 566957 or emailing connect@btg.im
- available to book between 9am and 9pm, seven days a week
- opened by a trained volunteer (unless being used with a professional)
Who the pod is for
- Young inpatients (14-24 years) who are well enough to spend time off the clinical wards, to relax with family/friends, watch a film, listen to music or catch up on school/college work
- Non-emergency attenders at ED (when ED staff agree it is safe and appropriate for the Pod to be used as a waiting area or while waiting to be admitted)
- Young people to meet with health professionals or those from other agencies
- Young people who may benefit from a peaceful space when attending outpatient appointments at Noble’s Hospital
The BtG Pod provides a relaxed space that doesn’t feel clinical, which is important for those young people who unfortunately have to spend a lot of time in hospital. The Pod is a bright, airy space where individuals can get together with friends/family, do some of the things they enjoy, and even keep up to date with their education.
