Archery is one of the oldest sports still practiced.  Develop a good eye and superb
co-ordination skills whilst learning the art and skill of shooting with a bow and arrow. The focus required to shoot accurately makes this activity a brilliant way to de-stress.

Bowls or lawn bowls is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a pitch which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls").  Most bowling clubs have a mixed team, separate ladies and men’s teams, over 60’s Ladies’ and Men’s team.

The Isle of Man Army Cadets is home to over 100 cadets and almost 30 adult volunteers in 6 detachments around the island.  Become an Army Cadet and spend your spare time taking part in adventurous activities like rock climbing, mountain biking, archery and abseiling. There will also be plenty of chance to play all your favourite sports because the ACF has competitions for both boys and girls at county, regional and national level.

Gorge Scrambling

Gorge Walking, also known as Scrambling is a combined rock and water activity which usually takes place in one of the Island’s many glens.  Follow a river down the gorge, climbing waterfalls, scrambling over rocks, jumping into plunge pools, low level traversing, help each other across the water while negotiating a river bed and generally have a lot of fun!! Buoyancy aids, wet suits and helmets are usually provided as well as a fully trained instructor.

The Isle of Man is full of great walks; glens and beaches which your dog will enjoy, Manx National Heritage offer a huge variety of places to go for a walk, both close to Towns, on the coast and in the countryside.   Some heritage sites provide facilities for dogs; shady parking spaces in car parks and bins for dog waste (these facilities will vary from site to site). Please view Manx National Heritage's Public Notice for details on their dog-friendly facilities and information. There are some seasonal restrictions on beaches which you can view full details of within the Dog Control Byelaw documents and please abide by the Isle of Man Dog Walking Code.

Have fun outdoors and get in shape at the same time.  Hockey is an intensive cardiovascular workout that requires constant movement, including walking, jogging, and high-intensity sprints. The game works the arms, legs, hips, thighs, glutes, and abdominals. 

Hockey is played with a stick that has a rounded tip, or head, which players use to hit the ball down field. The ball can only touch one side of the stick and cannot touch the players’ feet. While playing field hockey, players must move quickly and efficiently in order to score goals.

Horse Riding

Horse riding works muscles you never even knew you had! Equestrian establishments around the island offer the ability to either learn to ride or develop your existing skills in a controlled environment. For those who wish to venture out, pony trekking, a quiet hack or a ride along the beach. Some of the Island’s riding centres also offer indoor training, jumping practice and individual and group sessions. (Ages 4 & upwards, all capabilities catered for).

Track days at Jurby Autodrom run throughout the year on selected days and offers the opportunity to take your car or motorbike around the 1.5 mile circuit.  All participants must have a full and valid driving licence and a roadworthy vehicle and there are no noise restrictions! Safety helmets are included in the price and full medical and marshal cover is available at all times. 


Trail Riding

Green lanes which vary in difficulty and which are clearly marked with a motorcycle/horse are for off-road vehicles, pedestrians, mountain bikes and horses.

Laser Mayhem 

Laser Mayhem is a recreational activity where players attempt to score points by tagging targets with a hand-held, infrared-emitting, targetting device.  For all age groups from 6 plus, it is completely safe and painless as only.  Laser-Mayhem games are operated from within a wooded area (normally located at Watertrough Park Plantation, opposite South Barrule Car Park).
