Referral process

Most couples seen in the fertility clinic will have been referred by their GP.

Infertility is a common problem affecting up to 1 in 9 couples and as a consequence the waiting time for an initial appointment can be up to 10 months. During this time a couple may achieve a spontaneous pregnancy or their domestic situation may change. As a consequence couples are contacted by letter when they are nearing the top of the waiting list and are asked to confirm that they still wish to receive an appointment.

When the appointment date and time is sent out it should be accompanied by an information leaflet, which explains what to expect at the visit.
