Parents are being advised against all non-essential off-Island travel at half-term so their children do not miss out on their education.
Under current border restrictions residents are required to self-isolate on their return to the Island and children are not allowed back into their school for the full 14 days. Direct trips to Guernsey do not require the same precautions.
Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture said:
‘I know many people may want to get away and see family and friends, but our advice is to avoid travelling off-island where possible.
‘This year has been very disruptive for our young people and their teachers and it is important that their education is not further affected further by a period of self-isolation.’
At this stage schools are not able to provide remote learning to children who are self-isolating following non-essential travel.
‘Unfortunately the health situation in England, particularly in the North West, is unstable at the moment and I strongly advise parents and guardians to continue to enjoy what is on our door step this half-term.’
Schools will close for half-term on Monday 26 October and reopen on Monday 2 November.
