Monday, 9 March 2020

Sport Aid Recipients AnnouncedForty nine athletes from 14 sports have been chosen for the Isle of Man Sport Aid's (IOMSA) 2020/21 scholarship programme.

Each scholarship provides a combination of financial support towards travel and equipment plus access to services at the Isle of Man Sport Institute.

The athletes will receive their support certificates at the Isle of Man Sports Awards at the Villa Marina in Douglas on 2 April.

IOMSA is a registered charity and has played a pivotal role in supporting many of the Island’s top athletes over the past 20 years with recipients going on to achieve success on the world stage.

Sarah Corlett, Chairwoman of IOMSA, said:

‘All successful recipients were nominated by their sport's governing body before facing a rigorous selection process.

She added:

‘All sponsorship goes directly towards supporting our athletes and I would like to say a huge thank you to all sponsors for their continued support.’

The charity works in partnership with the Isle of Man Government, businesses and sponsors to give the Island’s talented athletes the opportunity to compete at national, international and world level, and to act as ambassadors to promote the Isle of Man as a centre of sporting excellence.

Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture said:

‘The list of recipients really shines a light on the depth of talent across Manx sport.’

The presentation of scholarships will take place during the Isle of Man Sports Awards, sponsored by Microgaming PlayItForward, which will see 11 awards handed out including the Sportsman and Sportwoman of the Year for 2019. This year’s special guest will be Olympic Gold medallist Amy Williams MBE.
