Leading sports coach Debby Sargent to deliver seminar

Leading sports coach Debby SargentThe importance of training female athletes as individuals will be the subject of the latest Isle of Man Sport Seminar to be held in Douglas on Saturday 21 March.

The talk will be delivered by Debby Sargent, who has been working with high performance athletes for more than 20 years in the UK, and currently works at the University of Gloucestershire, delivering strength and conditioning degree courses.

Debby has also co-authored a book called strength and conditioning for female athletes and has worked with Scottish Rugby, Scottish Golf and the Scottish Institute of Sport.

Her seminar will explore some of the issues female athletes face and how they can be used to positively affect their training programmes. It will also look at some of the differences between training male and female athletes.

Debby said:

‘In the last 20 years I have worked across a lot of different sports and I’ve been exposed to a lot of different approaches, contexts and philosophies.

‘I’ve worked a lot with female athletes and I try to work with them as individuals to affect their training in a positive way.’

The seminar will also look at action coaches, athletes and parents could consider to help better support female athletes.

Debby is keen to tailor her presentation to the needs of the audience and people booked to attend can panel questions to her via Isle of Man Sport ahead of the event. 

Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture said: 

‘I am delighted that Debby has agreed to deliver this important seminar about women in sport. She is an expert in her field and I encourage coaches, athletes and parents to come along.’

The seminar will be held between 9.30am and 11am at the Keyll Darree lecture theatre next to Nobles Hospital on Saturday 21 March.
