Further information on the Library

Registration

If you would like to join the library, you can do this via our registration form. Registration will be done within 24 hours (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays), but can be longer during peak times. After this time your library membership card can be collected from the library during staffed hours.

If you want to take out books immediately upon joining let a member of staff know and we'll try our best to help.

Athens Account

Open Athens is a username and password which gives eligible library members access to the online journals, books, and databases which Keyll Darree Library subscribes to. Click on the following link to register: Athens Registration. Requests will be processed within 24 hours.

Out of hours access

Keyll Darree Library is open 24/7 for those with a proximity card. This means that eligible users have access to the library to study and browse for resources outside staffed hours. Books can also be taken out using the self-circulation machine at the front desk. If you can't get to the library during staffed hours to return your books, there is a returns box in the coffee lounge by the canteen at Nobles Hospital.

Staffed hours are:

Monday to Thursday: 9am - 5pm and Friday 9am – 4pm.

Members of staff who work at Nobles automatically have out of hours access with their swipe card. Other out of hours access is provided on a case by case basis for those with a need to study. Applications for access can be made through the library.

Accessing emails and the Internet

The library has 4 Government PCs - 3 in our IT room, and one at the back of the library. Please note that you may need to search for Outlook in the search bar of the start menu and add it. A message will ask you to confirm your account details, follow the on screen instructions then Outlook will be launched.

Loans, reservations and renewals

Loans

You can borrow a maximum of 6 resources at one time. Most book and resource loans are available for four weeks, but high demand items such as essential course reading will be reduced to two week loans during the module period.

The most recent journal edition is reference only; older editions are one week loans.

You may, if you wish, borrow a laptop to use within the library during staffed hours. Please ask a member of staff should you wish to do this.

Reservations

To reserve a book you can log on to our Library catalogue using your KD number and PIN. As soon as the book is returned to the library you will receive a message to advise you that it is now available and we will put it to one side ready for collection.

Renewals

Loans can be renewed twice (12 weeks maximum loan), as long as isn’t reserved by another user.

To renew you can log on to our Library catalogue using your KD number and PIN. If it is already overdue it will have to be renewed by library staff – just give us a call on +44 1624 642993 or send an e-mail to: librarykeylldarree@gov.im.

New book suggestions

There is a suggestion box on the counter where suggestions for stock or improvements to the library can be submitted. You can also speak to one of the library staff or send an e-mail of any recommendations and why we should purchase the book. The Library Manager will consider such requests and advise accordingly.
Alternatively you can complete an ILL Article/Book request form online (paper copies also available in the library). We will then check if the book is available with other libraries in the UK. All ILL Book and article requests are free of charge to library members unless we have to borrow from the British Library (BL) – in which case there is a charge of between £10-15 but we will always check whether you would like to proceed before ordering from BL.
