Timeline to link History and English Departments

Wednesday, 15 March 2017

An exciting timeline is being produced in the Ramsey Grammar School West building to link the English and History Departments. The timeline features key dates from history ranging from the death of Tutankhamun in 1323 BCE to the 70th Anniversary of Ramsey Grammar School becoming the first Comprehensive in 2016 with 138 other events in between; while the literature timeline features great works and events in the world of literature ranging from Beowulf to Harry Potter and from the first ink printer to the introduction of the Kindle. Students from across the school are busy producing images from the historical and literature events that will be displ

ayed on the timelines as a permanent feature to support cross-curricular learning.

Head of English, Julie Owen said,

‘The timeline is designed to link the two departments and we intend to use it as an interactive and dynamic educational resource. We hope that other departments will use the timeline to look at key points in their particular subject.’

Head of History Andrew Wilkinson noted,

‘We only had room for 140 events in history and had to do a great deal of editing. The timeline has already caused interest and controversy with students discussing events and publications that have been included and excluded. Luckily, students and teachers will have the opportunity to add events that they feel are important.’

Julie also explained,

‘Students who are keen on art, literature, history and ICT are putting the information together using a range of presentational skills and formats, and we hope to have everything completed by February half-term so that the wider school can start to use this key visual resource as part of their teaching and learning.’
