Isle of Man Children’s Champion

The role of the Children's Champion

The role of the Children’s Champion was changed in June 2025 so that its focus is championing both the views, needs and best interests of looked after children and the needs of young adults after they leave care.

Listening to those directly affected has always been important to me, nothing about us without us.

My duties are:

  • To ensure that the voices of looked after children are heard clearly by Government Departments and agencies when they are acting in a corporate parent role

  • To champion the rights, needs and best interests of looked after children and to ensure that their views are heard. This will include engaging with Tynwald Members, Ministers and senior government officers on the rights and needs of looked after children

  • To promote and assist engagement between looked after children and the Isle of Man Government

  • To be a member of the Corporate Parenting Group and to work closely with the Voices in Participation Council and Manx Care’s Children’s Rights Champion; and

  • To provide responses to relevant consultations, particularly in relation to the planning, commissioning or delivery of services for looked after children

You can read more about the role in the Children’s Champion terms of reference.

Please don’t hesitate to be in touch.
