Home Care Service

Aims and objectives

The aim of the Home Care Service is to provide personal care and practical support which will enable people to continue living in their own homes. The amount of help provided depends on the needs of the individual service user, who is encouraged to remain as active and independent as possible.

Home Care may be provided for any of the following reasons :

  • Inability to cope with physical tasks due to illness or age
  • Post-operative conditions which require convalescence
  • Psychological or mental health problems which interfere with ability to look after self or surroundings
  • Long-term disabilities
  • Carer needing support
  • Short-term support to assist people to regain their confidence and independence

The Home Care staff are required to undertake a wide variety of tasks in order to meet the needs of each individual service user.

Personal Care may include help with the following:

  • Transfers in and out of bed, wheelchair, armchair
  • Washing and dressing
  • Assisting with use of the toilet
  • Assisting with continence management and personal hygiene
  • Assisting with medication

Practical support may include:

  • Lighting coal fires
  • Collecting pensions, shopping, paying bills
  • Preparing and serving meals
  • Essential household hygiene
