The primary function of EMI units is to care for older people with mental illness or those who present challenging behaviour arising from Dementia which cannot be managed in another care environment. All people coming into EMI services are assessed to ensure that the service provided is suitable for the individual’s needs.

Referrals are also taken through the Older People’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS) which is responsible for those over the age of 65 with mental health problems. To contact OPMHS please Telephone: +44 1624 642879.

After referral to EMI services, the care and suitability for placement will be reviewed at least once every 4 months. Residents/clients and their families will be invited to be part of this review process. If, following this review, the assessed care needs of the resident/client has changed and placement within EMI units is no longer appropriate, staff will offer guidance for ongoing care. Residents, clients and their families are actively encouraged to participate in all decisions regarding care plans, from the point of referral, through on-going reviews, right to the point of discharge.

EMI drop in facility

We also offer a service called the ‘Good Neighbour Scheme’ which is a drop in facility and can be offered to clients for periods of up to four hours a day whilst their carer attends other appointments such as hospital appointments or goes shopping, etc.
