External Services for older people and adults with Learning Disabilities

Manx Care has a number of external contractors that currently provide care and support services. It is expected that there will be further contracted services in future. Below is information and some contact details for external services that are supported by Manx Care.

Autism Initiatives Outreach Service

The Autism Initiatives Team provides a community-based outreach service for people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) but primarily for people with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. The service is outcome focused, and so provides varying levels of support to people dependent on need. It also supports a social group every week with a range of activities which anyone can access. Crossroads Care Social Club

Crossroads Care provides practical and emotional support for carers living on the Isle of Man. The organisation is focused on improving the lives of carers by giving them time to be themselves and have a break from caring. Crossroads Care’s Social Club provides a day service for adults with learning disabilities, promoting a sense of independence and supporting them to learn new skills whilst giving carers respite from their caring responsibilities.

Crossroads Care’s Care at Home Scheme

Crossroads Care offers  practical and emotional support for carers living on the Isle of Man. The service is about  improving the lives of carers by giving them time to be themselves and have a break from caring. Support workers from the Care at Home Scheme take over some care responsibilities creating immediate and sustained respite, allowing the carer to have time to themselves to go out or to take a break.

Leonard Cheshire Disability - Supported Living – Thie Quinney

Leonard Cheshire Disability runs a purpose built supported living unit on one level with easy level access to the town of Ramsey, housing six permanently tenanted and two respite flats for adults of all ages with a range of physical disabilities. Which are accessed via assessment and referral by Manx Care Adult Services Disability Social Work Team. Praxis

Praxis Care provides long term accommodation for 9 adults with learning disabilities at 2 residential homes in the North of the Island. They also run a supported living service and a commissioned day service that supports up to 15 service users. Access to these services is via assessment and referral by the Adult Services Disability Social Work Team. Manx Blind Welfare Society (Sight Matters)

Manx Care works in partnership with Manx Blind Welfare Society (MBWS) (t/a Sight Matters), a charity that provides support services to those that are blind or who have any other visual impairment or sight loss. Services offered include:

  • Low Vision Services
  • Independent Living Services
  • Habilitation Services
  • Emotional support
  • Social activities (including walking groups, acoustic shooting, short mat bowling)
  • Assistive equipment and technology
  • Luncheon clubs
  • Young Persons’ Club
  • Audio library
  • Recorded news
  • Visual Awareness training
  • Members’ holiday
