Visit of the Lord Mayor of the City of London

Monday, 23 January 2012

david wootonThe Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Wootton, is visiting the Isle of Man next week to learn more about the Island’s role as an international business and finance centre.

The Lord Mayor, whose job is to promote the City and British financial services generally, will be welcomed by Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK when he arrives on Thursday (January 26).

His day here will include briefings on various sectors of the Island’s economy, and finance sector regulation, as well as delivering the Chief Minister’s International Lecture to guests at a business lunch in Douglas. A keen railway enthusiast, he will also take a ride on a steam train.

The Lord Mayor was invited to the Island by the Chief Minister, who had a meeting with him in London, in December last year, as part of the Manx Government’s programme of engagement with key figures in Westminster and the City.

The Isle of Man has been building relations with the Lord Mayor’s Office in recent years, and one of Alderman Wootton’s predecessors in the role, Alderman David Lewis, described the Island as a ‘core asset’ for the City.
