The Department for Enterprise is responsible for economically supporting the local construction sector. Additionally Government’s extensive Capital Programme together with private sector work is generating high levels of activity within this sector. Government is committed to driving quality standards in the sector.
Construction Isle of Man (CIOM) is the newly formed representative body for the Construction Industry in the Isle of Man, its creation followed an agreement between the Isle of Man Construction Federation, The Isle of Man Construction Forum, The Chamber of Commerce Construction Committee and Think Construction to join together to form a single representative body.
The mission of CIOM is to:
- Ensure the Isle of Man construction industry sustains and thrives.
- Promote and develop a positive and professional image.
- Create a comprehensive industry standard.
- Improve health and safety.
- Actively promote careers in construction.
- Provide education and training.
- Listen to all industry voices and work together.
The Department will continue to build on the relationship with CIOM, and are represented on the CIOM Board as a non-voting member. CIOM acts as an agent of the Department in relation to the CIOM Accredited Scheme (ex Manx Accredited Construction Contractors Scheme), CIOM Certificate Scheme Register (ex Register of Craftsmen and Craftswomen) and as representatives of the local industry.
The Department is working closely with the sector to help to address important current issues such as skills shortages, health and safety training issues, and improving quality standards.
