Commercial fishing – guidance notes
This page has the recently updated guidance notes relating to commercial fishing within the territorial sea and also for Manx vessels fishing outside of the territorial sea. This includes information for all vessels relating to logbooks, electronic logbooks and VMS (Vessel Monitoring System). The guidance notes cover the legislation surrounding logbooks and VMS, including what you must do in the event of any technical issues with your system hardware.
Electronic Logbook (E-Log) QUICK GUIDE IoM. (Some details may differ depending on the provider of your Electronic Logbook)
Starting a Trip Double click on E-Log icon on desktop Type in username and password (as provided), then click OK
Departure Make sure all details are Ok and correct i.e., Port, Date etc. Select fishing gear to be used Select anticipated activity e.g. fishing Save Send Receive (enter password) Ok After message has been sent, click on Fishing Trip
*Complete the Departure BEFORE leaving port.*
Trip Info (FAR) +Add Tow Check date Save Click on Gps (green world symbol) if enabled OR enter Statistical rectangle (e.g. 37E5) and Division 27 7 a (e.g. VIIa). Enter Latitude and Longitude (E.g. 54 32 10N 004 32 21W). Select Economic zone Isle of Man Input the total duration of your fishing activity in minutes (or hours) depending on your Elog provider. Input the number of tows you made during your fishing activity. Fill out fish quantity etc Save Export Send Receive (enter password) Ok After message has been sent, click on Fishing Trip
*The days’ FAR info must be sent before midnight and also when crossing into or out of the Isle of Man’s territorial waters*
Prior Notification (only if required) Enter Date, Time and Port (for time, left button=hours, and right button=mins) Estimated Arrival Send Receive (enter password) Ok After message has been sent, click on Fishing Trip
*End of Fishing to be completed BEFORE entering port.*
Arrival Message (RTP) – *complete when you have entered into a port.*
Enter Date, Time and Reason Port Arrival Send Receive (enter password) Ok After message has been sent, should say “The fishing trip will be closed” If not, click Send Receive again, re-enter password Ok until it completes the trip.
