Sheep Scab treatment

26 August 2010: Following industry consultation and legislative change, the compulsory autumn treatment period for Sheep Scab will no longer apply.

Keepers are therefore no longer required to compulsorily treat their sheep between September and November each year.

The disease continues to remain notifiable and all suspect or confirmed cases must be reported immediately to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

All keepers of sheep, including pet animals should remain vigilant for signs of infestation and maintain good biosecurity measures.

Voluntary preventative treatment is still permissible and a list of products is provided below:

Dips
Organo Phosphorous
Osmond's Gold Fleece Sheep Dip
Paracide Plus 62

All dips must be used at the recommended concentrations for clinical sheep scab and under the supervision of a competent person.

Injection
Cydectin (Moxidectin as the active ingredient)
Dectomax (Doramectin as the active ingredient)

Accurate estimation of weight and dosage is essential, as is correct administration to every sheep in your flock.

Please contact the Department for details on other injections/dips.
