Pig movement licences

Specific licences are required for all movements (except direct for slaughter or veterinary treatment).

Details required for a movement licence are:

  • Name, address and holding number of departure and destination
  • Date of intended movement
  • Number and details (sex/breed/age) of pigs
  • Purpose of Movement (sale/breeding)
  • Name and contact number of Haulier
  • Means of Transportation

DEFA Agriculture requires 1 working day's notice for a Movement Licence.

The licence will be issued to the Holding of Departure and must travel with the animal(s). The licence must be kept by the Holding of Destination for a period of 6 months and shall during that period produce the licence on demand to an inspector.

Movements direct to slaughter do not require a licence and movements for veterinary treatment are covered by a general licence available to download on this page.
