Mapping

You will be able to find the Government Mapping System here: www.gov.im/maps

In order to complete 'Section 1 - Agricultural Development Scheme Claim Form' of your application booklet, you will require field numbers and acreages. Go to the Government Mapping System website and follow the steps below:

If you DO NOT KNOW THE FIELD NUMBER, follow these steps:

  1. Scroll down the page to find 'Island Environment', click on this option and a new tab will open on the web browser showing a map of the island

  2. On the left of your screen there will be a box entitled; 'Layer List', click on it

  3. Click on the button at the top right of the white part of the box. It should look like three horizontal lines with a tick in the middle. This will display some options. Click on, 'Turn all layers off'

  4. Find 'Field Gazatteer' on the ‘Layer List’ and click on the check box so that it turns blue with a white tick in the centre

  5. You are now able to use the map to locate fields by using either of the following methods:

    • Enter your farm's postcode, address, or any nearby address into the map's search bar (which you can find in the top left of your screen) and you will be taken to that location. You can now use your mouse to move around the map and find the exact field you are looking for

    • Use your mouse and the map navigation tools such as the zoom in/out buttons to locate your field manually

  6. Once you have found the field you are looking for, click on it to find the field number, total acreage and category (AML/BML)

If you KNOW THE FIELD NUMBER and would like to find out the total acreages, enter the number in the map’s search bar (which you can find in the top left of your screen) and you will be taken to the field’s location.

Measuring tool

If you need to measure an area within a field shape to work out your eligible acreage, you can do this by using the Measurement function on the Government Mapping System.

Firstly, find the field in question by using the instructions above. Once you are looking at the relevant field, in the top left of your screen you should see a ruler underneath the search bar and if you click on the ruler a white box will open. You will find options for area, distance and location in the top left of the Measurement box that just opened. If you click on the area option (far left box), a drop down menu will appear at the top of the box, click on this drop down menu and select Acres.

Using your mouse you are now able to click around the area you want to measure and the Measurement box will provide the acreage once you have finished. If you are unable to see the area properly due to the field being highlighted in green, you are able to turn off the ‘Field Gazatteer’ on the Layer List.

There are also more general instructions for using the maps. This can be accessed via the ‘Help’ button on gov.im.
