Parental Orders

The Parental Orders Register is maintained by the Registrar General at the Civil Registry. The Parental Orders Register is there to record the registration of a child born to a surrogate mother who is then cared for by a new parent as determined by the court of law. It should be noted that the Parental Orders Register is not open to the public for inspection or search.

Once the couple have gone through the required process and received a Court Order issued by the High Court of Justice for the Isle of Man, the order is to be presented to the Civil Registry. On receipt of the Court Order the registrar from the Civil Registry will enter the details in the Parental Orders register and take the Register to the Registrar General to sign. Once this has been done the Civil Registry will contact the couple and let them know that the registration has been completed. If required, the couple can request copies of the entry in the Parental Orders register upon payment of the prescribed fee.

Please note that the production of any records relating to Parental Orders is at the discretion of the Registrar General in accordance with applicable statutory provisions.

A Parental Orders certificate is the certificate required for all legal purposes. To apply for a certificate you should contact the Civil Registry.

Disclosure of birth records

A person registered in the Parental Orders Register may apply for a certified copy of their original birth certificate on application made to the Civil Registry:

A counselling service is available to you if required.  Form 1 (below) must be completed and submitted to the Civil Registry together with the prescribed fee when requesting a copy of your birth certificate.
