Births, Deaths and Marriages

The Registrar General has issued the Emergency Powers (Coronavirus) (Births And Deaths Modifications) Regulations 2020. These new regulations came into force from the 8th of April 2020, until such times as rescinded by the Registrar General.

The new regulations stipulate that all people who have the need to register a birth or death will no longer be required to attend an office to carry out the registration. Applicant(s) are requested to submit details to be registered via the online service available for both births and deaths. The requirement for a person to sign the register will not be in force whilst we are operating under the emergency powers. Where any part of the process states that a person has to attend the Civil Registry and sign the registration, this requirement is superseded by the emergency powers regulations as stated above.

In order to follow the advice and recommendations for social distancing and an increasing need to work from home the Central Registry public counters at the Registries Building, Deemsters Walk are now closed. Registry staff will continue to work in the background to process applications and documentation for each of our services as far as possible.

The following services are affected:

  • Civil Registry
  • Companies Registry
  • Deeds and Probate Registry
  • Land Registry

Documents for all the above Registries can be submitted by post or alternatively delivered to the post box at the entrance to the Registries Building. Please note that Land Registration applications should be made by email prior to paper submission in order to gain priority.

Companies Registry

Filing for the Companies Registry should be sent via post.  All Companies Registry enquires should be directed to companies.registry@gov.im

Location

The Civil Registry, including its ceremony room, is located on the ground floor of the Registries Building on Deemsters Walk, just off Bucks Road, opposite the Courts of Justice building in Douglas.

Travel Information

If travelling to the Civil Registry Office by car, we recommend that you check in advance your parking options. There are various free disc parking zones nearby, as well as convenient car parks, some of which can be paid for prior online. If you need to get hold of a parking disc they are usually available from vehicle hire firms, the Sea Terminal, Douglas, Police Stations, Post Offices and local Commissioners' Offices throughout the Island. Please use the links to understand your options prior to visiting the Civil Registry as parking may not always be available at your parking place of choice.
