Minister appeals for patience from Salary Support Scheme applicants

Friday, 8 January 2021

Applicants for the latest round of the Salary Support Scheme are reminded that they should not make an application until they have paid their staff for the period to 31 January.

The award is based on confirmation by the applicant that the staff for which they are claiming have been paid, and that the business has suffered a downturn during the period.

Businesses which have already submitted a claim for Period 12 will be contacted by email after 1 February 2021 to request confirmation that there are no changes to the application.

All applicants are requested to respond to any requests for information as soon as possible. If confirmation is not received, the application will not be approved.

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK said:

‘I am aware that businesses want assurance that they will receive support under the scheme and are submitting applications in advance. However, doing so will not speed up payment. Indeed these early applications cause additional administration and can actually slow the process down.

‘I appeal to those affected to be patient and submit claims on the due date. Staff will endeavour to process them as quickly as possible, as they have done for those receiving support under this scheme since it was established in March last year.’
