Disability Living Allowance

If you become disabled or terminally ill before you reach state pension age you may qualify for Disability Living Allowance. If you become disabled, after you reach state pension age, you may quality for Attendance Allowance.

Basic qualifying conditions

You must:

• be ordinarily resident and present in the Island at the time you make your claim
• have been present in the Island or in the United Kingdom for at least 104 weeks within the 156 weeks immediately before you make your claim

You also should have needed help for at least 3 months immediately before you claim (unless you are terminally ill – see below). You should also expect to need care for at least a further 6 months.

DLA has two components:

• Care component
• Mobility component

Make your claim as soon as you need help. Request a claim form, complete it and return it to us.

Payment

You can be paid weekly by MiCard or into a bank account every 4 weeks.
