You can receive Child Benefit if you are responsible for a child under 16 (or under 20 if they stay in approved education or training).
Only one person can get Child Benefit for a child.
If two people claim Child Benefit for the same child there are rules which determine which of them is entitled to Child Benefit.
Applying for Child Benefit
You can claim Child Benefit by downloading a claim form.
This needs to be returned to the above address along with the child's birth certificate.
Amount of Child Benefit
The amount of Child Benefit you get depends on how many children you have and how much income you are treated as having (your reckonable income).
The weekly rates of Child Benefit are shown below:

Paying Child Benefit
Child Benefit can be paid into a bank or building society account or you can collect it each week using your Micard at the post office.
Change of circumstances
Tell us if you:
- change your address
- have a new partner
- separate from a partner
Contact us straightaway about any other change of circumstances affecting your Child Benefit, including when the child or young person leaves full time education.
