European Union Sanctions: Mali

Tuesday, 17 October 2017

This news release is issued to publicise a new sanctions regime in respect of Mali.

On 5 September 2017, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2374 that established a targeted sanctions regime on Mali, which will impose travel bans and assets freezes on people and entities engaged in activities that threaten the peace, security, or stability of the country.

On 16 October 2017, the European Union (Mali Sanctions) Order 2017 and the European Union (Mali Sanctions) Regulations 2017 came into operation.

The Order applied the provisions of Council Regulation (EU) No 2017/1170, as part of the law of the Island.

The Regulations provide for penalties and offences for breaches of the Council Regulation, allowing for issues of licences by the Treasury, where necessary, and providing for information powers for the investigation of suspected breaches etc.

It should be noted that to date no targets have been designated.

Further details can be found in Sanctions Notice 46.
