Special currency means Government notes and coins other than in the currency of the Isle of Man.
Special currency coins ("commemorative coins") are issued under section 6 of the Currency Act 1992. In accordance with the Act, the Treasury has powers to determine, the form of special currency in the Island.
In accordance with the Act, such a determination:
- shall include the denominations, face value and design of the coins, and the devices to be borne by the coins;
- may prescribe the weight, composition, form and dimension of the coins; and
- must be published in such a manner as the Treasury shall approve.
