Special Currency

Special currency means Government notes and coins other than in the currency of the Isle of Man.

Special currency coins ('commemorative coins') are issued under section 6 of the Currency Act 1992. In accordance with the Act, the Treasury has powers to determine, the form of special currency in the Island.

In accordance with the Act, such a determination:

  1. shall include the denominations, face value and design of the coins, and the devices to be borne by the coins

  2. may prescribe the weight, composition, form and dimension of the coins and

  3. must be published in such a manner as the Treasury shall approve
